Local Organization Has Close Ties to 2012 Grammy Awards Nominee

Annapolis, MD – February 6, 2012 - The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra’s staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, Music Director and musicians will be anxiously awaiting the announcement of the winner of one special category at Sunday’s 54th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, California. Included in the nominations for “Best Small Ensemble Performance” is Hilos, a musical production created by composer Gabriela Lena Frank and performed by Frank with the Nashville based Alias Chamber Ensemble.

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce Your Baltimore-Annapolis Lexus Dealers as presenting sponsor of the 2012 Annapolis Symphony Ball, In Full Swing at Fifty presented by Lexus. On Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 6:30 pm, at the Loews Annapolis Hotel, guests will celebrate the ASO’s Golden Anniversary with live entertainment and dancing to the swinging sounds of The Swing Machine Band, a gourmet dinner with fine wines, and an incredible live auction.

$65,000 Grant Brings Latin Grammy Award-Winning Composer, Frank, to the ASO

The award of a $65,000 grant from Music Alive, the partnership program of the League of American Orchestras and Meet the Composer, is bringing the well-known young composer, Gabriela Lena Frank into the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra family for a two year residency.

The ASO is just one of five orchestras nationwide selected to receive a Music Alive composer-in- residence grant.

GABRIELA FRANK JOINS ASO AS COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE FOR 50TH ANNIVERSARY

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce that Gabriela Frank, the well-known, young American composer of contemporary classical music, is joining the organization as composer-in-residence for the next two seasons.

The Latin Grammy award-winning composer comes courtesy of a $65,000 grant from Music Alive, the partnership program of the League of American Orchestras and Meet the Composer.

The ASO is just one of five orchestras nationwide selected to receive a Music Alive composer-in- residence grant.
