ANNAPOLIS, MD – From the producer of 2007's stunning sold-out performance of The Broadway Tenors, comes a storybook concert that explores the universal theme of American musical theatre: two people meet and fall in love. The evening weaves together dozens of showtunes that tell the story of a tangled romance, conducted by Larry Blank and performed by two brilliant stars of Broadway: Brent Barrett and Patty Goble. The performance takes place on Friday, April 17, 8:00pm at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. Tickets are $34-$44 with special $10 seats available for students ages 8-25 with ID. The ASO Spring Pops is generously sponsored by PNC Bank.
Larry Blank is a composer, orchestrator and conductor, based in Los Angeles, New York and London, whose career has found him working with some of the most respected names in theatre, film, television, and music, as well as exciting new talents. Larry is represented on Broadway by his Tony nominated orchestrations for The Drowsy Chaperone. Larry also orchestrated White Christmas which is playing various cities in the US for the holidays as well as an upcoming production in the UK. He has also completed new orchestrations for Barbara Streisand's Current Final Tour. Larry is currently represented on the London stage with his new orchestrations for Fiddler on the Roof playing at the Savoy Theatre. Larry has done the arrangement, with Barry Manilow, and orchestration for Rags to Riches for Barry's upcoming CD release of standards.
Larry did the additional orchestrations for La Cage aux Folles at the Marquis Theatre in NYC. Larry was instructor for the first master class in film orchestration and conducting in Matera, Italy. He also orchestrated the West End Musical Beautiful and Damned and was the Music Director for Katie Couric's Hollywood Hits Broadway aboard the QM2 in New York Harbor. Larry also arranged and orchestrated John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter for the acclaimed West End and Broadway actor, and was the arranger for opera diva Deborah Voigt's concert with the NY Philharmonic, conducted by Don Pippin. Larry has had the pleasure of arranging/conducting for the following singers: Michael Feinstein, Marilyn Horne, Michael Crawford, Christine Andreas, Joe Williams, Yanni, Marvin Hamlisch, Bernadette Peters, Steve Lawrence, Vikki Carr, Pete Fountain, Elaine Stritch, Lorna Luft, Elaine Paige, Jason Alexander, Martin Short, Georgia Brown, and many others.
Brent Barrett is a proud member of Actors Equity, and is no stranger to the stages of Broadway, the West End, concert halls, recording studios and television. Most recently he performed the role of the “Phantom” in the new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s PHANTOM – The Vegas Spectacular which is playing at the new $40 million theatre at The Venetian on the Las Vegas Strip. He was most recently seen on Broadway reprising his role as "Billy Flynn" in the Tony Award- winning hit, Chicago - The Musical for which he received a Los Angeles drama Critics Award. Brent received an Olivier Award nomination for his starring role in the London premiere of the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Kiss Me, Kate.
Brent made his Broadway debut as "Tony" in the revival of West Side Story, which he subsequently reprised in the International Tour. Off-Broadway credits include Closer than Ever, March of the Falsettos, The Death of Von Richtofen, The Time Of Cuckoo, and a musical version of Portrait of Jenny.
Brent can also be heard singing the role of Tommy Albright in the ANGEL-EMI recording of Brigadoon. Other recordings include Grand Hotel, Dance a Little Closer, Closer Than Ever, Show Stoppers, The Busby Berkeley Album, Lost in Boston IV, Unsung Musicals, Vol. III, and The Maury Yeston Songbook. On television and in film Brent was featured in The Producers, Hercules, Longtime, Companion, All My Children, Another World and Guiding Light.
Patty Goble is delighted to be making her Annapolis Symphony Orchestra debut. Patty was last seen on Broadway as Jessica Cranshaw, a role she originated in the Kander and Ebb musical comedy Curtains starring David Hyde Pierce, Her other Broadway credits include the original casts of The Woman in White, the Tony Award winning Musical Revivals of La Cage aux Folles and Kiss me Kate, and the critically acclaimed Ragtime. She has performed the role of Carlotta in The phantom of the Opera on Broadway, Toronto, and the Music Box Tour. Patty also performed the role of Christine in the Toronto production of Phantom…opposite Colm Wilkinson. She has toured the United States and Canada in the productions of Kiss me Kate, Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Music of the Night and Cats (jellyloum/Griddlebone). Carnegie Hall appearances have included the NY premier of the controversial hit opera, Jerry Springer, the Opera starring Harvey Kietel, South Pacific (PBS) and Show Boat. Other NYC credits include the NY City Center ENCORES! Productions of Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing, and the Kern/Hammerstein operetta Music in the Air. Patty has sung with the New York Philharmonic in Candide (PBS), and the Symphony Orchestras of Akron, Alabama, Edmonton, Louisville, Oregon and the Orchestra of St. Luke's. Regionally, Patty has received critical praise for her roles in The King and I (Anna) and The Sound of Music (Mother Abbess). Her Soprano voice can be heard on the original cast recordings of Kiss me Kate, Ragtime, Curtains and South Pacific (at Carnegie Hall).
